Funk and Filth File o' Facts : Beatman & Ludmilla

As arguably the best female/male DJ duo ever, and also the best thing to come out of Hungary, there are already two reasons why Beatman and Ludmilla absolutely rock! From early roots in pirate radio more than 10 years ago, on a journey through pretty much every facet of EDM, these two found a mutual love for awesome music, and also for each other - as they are not only partners behind the decks, but also away from them.

When you listen to their stuff you can instantly tell why these two are held in such high regard, and hats off to everyone who voted their collaboration with Hyper as the best track of the year at the last Breakspoll awards in London, check out Lights below.

But the best example of their skills to date is their new mix, Breakout Breeze - Summer Edition 2012, which you can download for free below. Brace yourself though, this thing will filth your face off - pure rinse out music!
Enough said.

Funk and Filth File o' Facts : The Wideboys

Every now and then a mix comes along that’s so good it makes you want to get partially naked and throw stuff around the place – The Wideboys have just delivered such a mix with their ‘History of the Wideboys’ set. For those who know, this is a big fat bop down a messy memory lane, and those who don’t know better get to know, because this is an education right here!

This bad boy starts out with the gentle caress of the classic garage anthem ‘Sambuca’, through the simply fucking brilliant dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-duns! of ‘Stand and Deliver’ into a middle section where you can have a nice little 4-to-the-floor rinse out, then some seriously tight rhymes from JME, Jammer, Shorty and C Gritz (*fist bump*) and the odd Rihanna and Beyonce remix – the boys proving that they can literally remix the bollocks off anything!

The mix is finished off with some of the guys’ more recent filth, in dubstep/drumstep/drum and bass form, demonstrating that as their music has evolved over the last 15 years or so, they have delivered consistently monstrous basslines, spanning several different genres and two different millenia.

I suggest you download this free mix several times and play it simultaneously through as many systems as you’ve got, so that you can cram as much of it as possible into your face as you rave in your living room, bedroom, office, prison cell, wherever you’ve got a reliable WiFi connection!

Seriously download this now. If you don’t then I will come to your house and dance in my pants in front of your parents, girlfriend/boyfriend, children, cats and dogs, anyone! – ok maybe not the children, that would be weird, but the pets are gonna get a show!

Want to know a bit more about The Wideboys? If you’re born after 1990 chances are you were a bit too young for the initial onslaught of UK Garage, so here you go:

The Wideboys are known to the government as Edward Craig & James Sullivan, but probably Ed and Jim to their friends and family. They’ve been together (making music together, not ‘together’!) for around 15 years, and were a leading force in UK Garage around the turn of the century with tunes such as: ‘All I Wanna Do’, ‘Stand and Deliver’ and ‘Westside’, as well as remixes for fellow garage legends including Artful Dodger, Miss Dynamite and Shanks and Bigfoot - there was a time when you couldn’t go out without witnessing one of their tracks demolish a dancefloor.

The boys were then the brains behind the ‘Addicted To Bass’, ‘Garage Classics’ and ‘Maximum Bass’ brands – everyone has at least one of those CDs (90s kids, you might want to google what a CD is!) and after years of producing cross-genre masterpieces and remix and production work for some of the biggest stars on the planet (Eric Prydz, Snoop Dogg, Janet Jackson, Kanye West, Ludacris, to name but a few) they’ve secured a regular Kiss FM show to share their magic with the masses!

Download their latest mix now (you know what will happen if you don’t!) and check out The Kiss Bass Mix with The Wideboys every Sunday from 10 – 11pm UK time and look out for their new work being released under the alias ‘Project Bassline’. You can also help yourself to some more of their free downloads right here.

Funk and Filth File o' Facts : Funkanomics

Three geezers from Germany, who thump out funk like it’s going out of business! These boys seriously know how to funk!

When Juwee, FxFarmer and Bobby Kudlicz combine their skills magic happens. Take, for example, Superstition by Stevie Wonder – arguably one of the funkiest tunes of all time – yet somehow these boys have made it even funkier, check it out below.

With their remix of American Woman (which featured in our Funky Filthy Sound Dock Roadtest) they have created a masterpiece of EDM, and one of my favourite tunes around! Check it out below as well, and visit to download the track and loads of others for free!

Help yourself to more of their dangerously funky free downloads below. All I have left to say is, Sehr gut Funkos, sehr gut! ;)

Funky Friday : Telephunken

Never has a man's musical selection spoken for itself so much. Hence why this is going to be such a short post!

The recent release of Funk and Dirty Bass Vol 6 by DJ Telephunken, reminded me of the consistent brilliance of the man's work . . . so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share Volumes 1 - 6 of Funk and Dirty Bass for free download right here.

Telephunken, real name Ernesto Sanchez from sunny Spain, has been creating these does-exactly-what-it-says-on-the-tin masterpieces over the last year, and each time a new one drops it is hard to believe that he's actually done even better than the last chunk of awesome!

Funk and Filth File o' Facts : Savant

Ladies and gentlemen, silence please, we are in the presence of genius!

Savant, or Aleksander Vinter, has been releasing some quality tracks since 2009, but seems to have really propelled himself up out of nowhere over the last year (well, not nowhere, Oslo in fact) with his moody mixture of breaks, dubstep, glitch and electro house, which combines crisp vocal work with some seriously tasty ass bass . . . it's a pretty awesome sound.

I can only assume that he's taken the name 'Savant' for its meaning of 'expert', because this fella is cutting some serious beats, and doing some pretty special cross-genre work . . . some of his stuff reminds me of Klaypex - and I flipping love Klaypex!

Savant offers loads of his tracks for free download, which only makes us love him even more, and you can help yourself to the best ones that we've picked out for you below. But if you've got a bit of spare cash lying about, it is well worth getting hold of his new album, Overworld, which came out this week. Trust me, it is mental! Get it here.
