Filthy Friday : Austin & Vinyl Junkie feat. Rachel Wallace

It's old school meets new school today at Funk and Filth HQ! Not only have we been chomping our way through DJ Mag's top 100 DnB tracks from back in the day (full Youtube playlist for you to listen through at the bottom of this post!), but our inbox was also swollen with beats, thanks to a couple of legends of the bassline game - Austin and Vinyl Junkie! Having established themselves throughout the 90s when the rave scene was in it's glorious youth, they are still going strong, as this new release proves!

They've harnessed the vocal magic of Rachel Wallace, whose voice you must have heard on dancefloors around the place over the last two decades! Tell Me Why was arguably her biggest track of the 1990s, and just a couple of years ago she joined up with MC Skibadee and the aweome Erb N Dub on All Of My Junglists! (Videos for both of these tracks can also be found further down this post).

Back to the present day and this week's release of Can't Go Back by Austin & Vinyl Junkie, featuring Rachel Wallace. The guys have combined forces to generate a track that sounds both retro and bang up to date at the same time, and they've enlisted some quality remixing talent as well!

Like Funk and Filth on Facebook for more exclusive free downloads.

Have a listen to all 6 versions of Can't Go Back right here and let us know what you reckon. We're sure you'll agree that the Sanxion remix is the stand-out ball-breaking remix above all the others! It's a mix of dubstep/drumstep filth that'll have you chewing on yourself within seconds - proper stuff! The other reworks all bring their own style into the mix as well, we particularly like the ravey/garagey old school vibe on the Strange Rollers remix!
You can buy all the individual versions here on Juno.

Here's the bang tidy video for the Sanxion remix, and a brand new mixtape of utter dirt from the filthy fella too (it's a FREE DOWNLOAD!)!! Enjoy! Don't forget to scroll down for that playlist of 100 greatest drum n bass tracks and the Rachel Wallace vids too!

Rachel Wallace videos spanning the 20th and 21st centuries!

Bestival 2013 . . . Bring it on!

Here it comes guys!! That tiny little island floating just off the bottom of our slightly bigger island is bracing itself for an influx of awesome people for yet another instalment of the truly awesome Bestival!!

We just about survived our trip across the Solent last year, and spent several days afterwards picking up the pieces of our shattered lives! But we are ready and raring to head south again!

Here at Funk and Filth we're understandably pretty funking excited about Bestival 2013, here's why . . .

Wilkinson is the RAM Records golden boy at the moment, and having Andy C as a boss can never be a bad thing!! Looking forward to some textbook drum n bass filth from this fella! Check his guest mix for Radio 1 here (FREE DOWNLOAD) and let us know what you reckon!

Like Funk and Filth on Facebook for more exclusive free downloads.

JFB is an award winning, record breaking turntablist from another dimension! His stuff is sick, simple as that, and we can't wait to see him bust out some of his tricks again, it's always a sight to behold! Check this cheeky FREE mix below, as well as a video of him in action and a pic of him in a pretty tasty t-shirt too! ;)

Scroobius Pip is basically the slickest lyricist (trying saying that quickly!) in the world, and we're pretty sure he's also the guy who officially made beards cool. He's not to be missed this Bestival, and here's a lickle taster as to why . . .

While everyone else is just messing around and re-hashing old stuff, True Tiger are doing UK dubstep properly! Check out their version of Be Like Me featuring Snoop Dogg (who's also playing Bestival!) here, and click here to get the FREE DOWNLOAD of this track and loads more from True Tiger.

Surely we don't need to say much about Ed Solo! His record(s) speaks for itself! One of the funkiest, filthiest men on the planet, his recent set on the Arcadia stage at Boomtown (FREE DOWNLOAD below) has got us literally dripping in anticipation!

Glitchy, grimey beats from the other side of the pond, courtesy of Pretty Lights! Been fans of this guy for a long time now, and always mega-grateful that he offers most of his stuff up for free! Grab your FREE DOWNLOAD of his latest album, or offer up a donation in exchange for some of the finest, funky, filthy stuff available!

Dub Pistols will always hold a place in our hearts! Not only because they deliver one of the finest live performances you will ever see, but also because Barry Ashworth was the only person at the last Breakspoll awards who was in more of a pickle than us!!

We're also looking forward to a bit of grime from Redlight at this year's Bestival, mainly just to hear Basscone being thumped out (truly epic track! drops at 17.01 in the FREE mix below), but his other stuff is good to have a rinse-out to as well!

Also on our must-see list are Too Many T's, Born Ina Barn and Run Riot, perfect funky filthy festival music, as these two FREE mixes should demonstrate!!

. . . and purely because it is still one of the best tunes to hear as the sun is rising, and Mr FX is going to be joining us on the island, here is his remix of Hold You! Love it!!! FREE DOWNLOAD.

London in Shock After Funk and Filth Launch Party

The residents of North London had been warned, but I don't think anything could have quite prepared them for the onslaught of bass that we unleashed upon them on Friday night!

We took over the upstairs at the garage, which was just as well, as we took the roof off the place, with a quality crowd stomping right until closing time! (Click here for loads more free music from the guys who played on the night!)

A last-minute emergency meant that Snatch The Wax DJs unfortunately had to drop out of our launch party line-up, but the truly heroic Doctor Hooka was air-lifted in at the 11th hour to deliver a massive funk injection to the good people of London town! (See what I did there? Doctor, injection. Amazing huh!?)

CLICK HERE to download (for free!) the first ever set played at an official Funk and Filth Party night!

Like Funk and Filth on Facebook for more exclusive free downloads.

Hooka flung funk everywhere (his set from the night is the FREE DOWNLOAD above! History in the making, the first ever set at a Funk and Filth night!), in fact I reckon the guys at The Garage are probably still wiping the walls and ceiling down right now, quite a clean-up operation - and the good doctor even found time to get semi-naked behind the decks as temperatures soared! (Doctor - temperature - operation . . . it's almost as if I'm doing this on purpose!)

Next up was breaks legend Rennie Pilgrem who, unlike Hooka, managed to keep his clothes on, but just like the Doctor kept the dance floor thumping with a textbook set that glided us firmly in to the kindom of filth! When RP dropped the Pyramid re-fix of Emeli Sande's Heaven, it went OFF!!

No one thought it would be an easy task to follow the godfather of breaks on the decks, but as the clock moved into the small hours of the morning and the dance floor still bounced, Uppercut stepped up to unleash his own particular brand of filth . . . and achieved the impossible!! He took it up another level!!! Dubstep, drumstep, drum n bass . . . it was full-on bassline warfare that left Highbury & Islington and the surrounding boroughs literally trembling!! I hope they'll let us come back after that!!

What a night!! Massive thanks to everyone who came to party on our first night, the quality crowd made it an awesome party!! (There was some seriously dodgy dancing going on at some points though!!). We even had some special DJ guests joining us for a chuck-out on the dance floor - special shout out to true proponent of the Ghetto Funk styleeee DJ Detta, and Mr Rancid Teef for joining the party crew! The next one will be even bigger, even better, even funkier and even filthier!! Watch this space.

Funk and Filth Party - Friday 23rd August 2013

The big night has been and gone! Read the full review HERE!

After much demand, we have decided to unleash the very first Funk and Filth party, and London is the venue/victim!

You know what we are about here at Funk and Filth - we pick out the very best from the beautiful world of bass music, sharing the glorious free-downloady goodness with you fine people - and we've applied our expertise to pick out some leading talent to launch our inaugural Funk and Filth party.

Read further down the page for FREE MUSIC DOWNLOADS from the guys who will be playing on the night!

We're taking over the upstairs at The Garage in Highbury (right opposite Highbury & Islington tube) for a night of the funkiest and filthiest basslines known to man! And boy have we got a line-up for you . . .

Rennie Pilgrem

Multi-award-winning breaks don Rennie Pilgrem, over 20 years at the top of the game, head honcho of TCR Records and 6-time Breakspoll award winner! (We haven't done all the maths, but pretty sure only Krafty Kuts has won more Breakspoll awards than him!) He's a living legend, and he's going to be smashing it out at the first ever Funk and Filth party this summer!

Doctor Hooka

A last-minute addition to our launch party line-up is NSB Radio senior medical officer and time-travelling funklord Doctor Hooka! If you've caught any of his NSB shows, his recent festival mix series or the recent all-day radio funk-a-thon that he pulled, then you'll know we are in for a treat!!

Snatch The Wax DJs
[Unfortunately Snatch The Wax DJs will not now be able to make it! But we are adding the funktacular Doctor Hooka to the line-up!!!]
Festival firestarters and renowned funk flingers, Snatch The Wax DJs are dancefloor dynamite and true proponents of the Funk and Filth sound! We are getting the Funkjet out of the hanger and flying the boys back to London to unleash the sound that has had festival arenas around the land bouncing and wobbling!

Firmly in charge of filth on the night is the speaker-decimating Uppercut. Nasty basslines and tight beats, mixing in the old school drum n bass we've all loved for years with some of the freshest, floor-stomping basslines . . . it's going to get naughty! You have been warned!

Having a Krafty old time!

While we've been warming up for our Funk and Filth launch party in London town, we've also been indulging in a lot of the fine work from the funky selector, the Kraftiest man in the business, Mr Krafty Kuts! He's been all over our airwaves recently, in one form or another, so we thought a dedicated post to one of the finest bass-hounds around was in order!

Firstly, this month has seen Funk and Filth proudly sponsor Krafty's Instant Vibes remix competition, and there were some ludicrously tasty entries!! The winning remix was a stonker from Beatwrecka and the 4 runners-up will be released exclusively here on Funk and Filth, as FREE DOWNLOADS for you lovely lot!! Watch this space as they'll be coming at you very soon! CLICK HERE to check out the Krafty Kuts remix comp and listen to the winner, runners-up and all the other entries.

Like Funk and Filth on Facebook for more exclusive free downloads.

We've also been running a little opinion poll recently, pitting Krafty against his old pal A.Skillz in the mix-off to end all mix-offs, and asking you guys to choose your favourite! CLICK HERE to listen to (and download for FREE) mixes from these two heavyweights and let us know who gets your vote!

The last month has also seen the release (as another FREE DOWNLOAD) of Krafty's 10-year anniversary release of Tricka Technology which, as you would expect, is pure dancefloor dynamite! Grab it right here, it's one of the tracks of the year!

Mr Kuts has also just unleashed his latest Festival Mix, packed full of the sort of stupidly awesome basslines and knee-trembling beats that you'd expect from the big man! Festival season is always a busy time for Krafty Kuts and this Summer has been no exception. He's graced the decks in muddy fields and crowded tents all over the world, from California to Canada, Russia to Romania and up and down the UK.

When Krafty Kuts plays a festival he doesn't just bring the funk, he brings a full on bass assault to the party. Whether you were there covered in mud and glitter raving alongside him or you hate camping so stayed home and watched it on TV, relive the Krafty Kuts festival 2013 experience with this live recorded set . . .
Here's the mix, brace yourselves, it's a whopper!!
